Job Description

The position resides on our Programs team and reports to the Senior Director of Sustainability Programs. The PLANTS (Partnerships for Local Agriculture and Nutrition Transformation in Schools) Senior Coordinator position will manage the implementation of the Partnerships for Local Agriculture and Nutrition Transformation in Schools “PLANTS” sub-grant program, part of CAF’s cooperative agreement with USDA Food and Nutrition Service’s Healthy Meals Incentives School Food System Transformation Challenge. The program is designed to incentivize innovative partnerships between school districts, food producers, suppliers, distributors, and/or community partners to strengthen the availability of and access to nutritious, values-based food in the K-12 school food marketplace.

About the Cooperative Agreement: As lead cooperator, CAF: (1) Finalized the PLANTS sub-grant structure and the process for selecting sub-grantees that demonstrated innovative solutions for improvement of the K-12 food system; (2) Ensured SFAs, non-governmental entities, non-profit organizations, and food industry representatives are aware of the opportunity to receive challenge sub-grant funding; (3) Awarded 8 sub-grants and currently track and monitor sub-grantee progress toward grant activities and performance measures; (4) Provide training and technical assistance (TA) to sub-grantees to ensure successful completion of funded activities and sustainability beyond the grant performance period; (5) Collect process and outcome data from sub-grantees and provide status reports to FNS on sub-grantee progress toward their goals and objectives; and (7) Collect and disseminate best practices and success stories.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads implementation of the PLANTS sub-grant program, including coordination with PLANTS project team (CAF’s School Food Operations and contractors) to administer technical assistance and training, data collection, analysis and evaluation, and bi-annual Community of Practice meetings for sub-grantees;
  • Collaborates with supervisor and the CAF Marketing team to build out promotional materials including blogs, social media posts, earned media, and presentation decks to generate awareness of the PLANTS program and outcomes;
  • Works with sub-grantees and the Research & Evaluation team to generate robust case studies and share emerging best practices;
  • Collaborates with sub-grantees and contractors to ensure timely, thorough, and complete quarterly financial and narrative reporting and file/track approved financial reports and invoices;
  • Collaborates with CAF’s Technology team to maintain a program website and update sub-grantee information/activities in salesforce;
  • Responsible for providing excellent customer service to and maintaining strong relationships with program collaborators and sub-grantees, connecting them to necessary resources and support, as appropriate;
  • Ensures PLANTS is managed at the highest level and represents CAF’s commitment to quality, result-driven programming;
  • Provides administrative support including detailed note-taking, records maintenance and management, developing contractor and sub-grantee check-in agendas, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) development and documentation, etc;
  • Supports process to ensure programs meet targeted outcomes and goals;
  • Presents on PLANTS including sub-grantee case studies and project outcomes to CAF staff, relevant partners, and external audiences, as assigned;
  • Attends steering committees and coalition meetings to report back to the team on program/organization alignment opportunities, as assigned;
  • Manages technology integration including grant applications, sub-grantee reporting, and additional platforms (ie, Moodle) as directed;
  • Maintains understanding and awareness of federal and state policies as they relate to program operations; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Knowledge of and/or work experience in school food required
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in program development and management
  • Ability to travel for work: 6-8 trips (Visits to grantees and conferences/summits).
  • Ability to work virtually
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred with a major pertinent to the position’s requirements
  • Experience in K-12 local food procurement and equitable food supply chain development preferred.

Compensation

Compensation ranges between $52,000-$66,000 per year and will be commensurate with the candidate’s previous experience and credentials.
